Behold Our God

Behold Our God! Do you spend much time thinking about what it will be like when we behold our God? I do, and when I meditate on it, I am automatically lifted in my spirit and emotions to a higher plane of living than average. To imagine that day is powerful it’s almost indescribable. A song our choir has sung is titled “Behold Our God.” For me, it is very powerful as I sing and think of the imagery of God on His throne. As the song says, “Nothing can compare.” There is nothing or no one that can compare to Him. God has many names that describe His character. We will look at a few of those names to get a clearer picture of our God.

Abba is a name that is precious to me, and I have used it many times in my prayer time. Abba is the Aramaic for daddy. It is an enduring, warm, affectionate, and intimate term. It is a name that carries high respect. When I call Him Abba, I feel as if I’m climbing up in His lap for Him to hold me and give me the security that only He can provide. Romans 8:15 teaches us that we are adopted into His family when we are saved. I humbly and reverently call him Abba, Father, my Daddy.

Romans 8:15 “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

He is also Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end! He is the living word, and He is the end, the final word for all eternity. Jesus calls himself the beginning and the ending in Revelation 1:8. It is comforting to know He is in total control of the beginning, the end, and all that’s in between!

Revelation 1:8 “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”

He is El Elyon, the God Most High, the supreme one. There is none above Him. Many religions believe that our God is God, but not as the only supreme one. They acknowledge Him as a god, not the one and only supreme being that He is.

He is El Olam, the everlasting God! Nothing changes God, time does not alter Him, and there is nothing beyond his understanding or comprehension. Think about it, he knew every joy, every struggle, every obstacle, and every opportunity you would have from the beginning. Before anyone ever thought of you, He knew you. He was there in your past, He is here now, and He is already in your future! Those thoughts are indescribable, just WOW!

Psalm 90:1-2 “A Prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.”

He is El Rio, the God who sees. In Genesis 15:15, Hagar fled to the wilderness to get away from Sarah. Sarah devised a plan for Hagar, her handmaid, to bear a child by Abraham that she could claim, but when Hagar became pregnant, Sarah showed hatred toward her, and Hagar left. However, our God saw her and ministered to her.

Genesis 16:13 “And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?

He is El Shaddai, the God Almighty in Psalm 91:1.

Psalm 91:1 “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

He is Yahweh, the self-existent one.

Exodus 3:14 “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.”

He is Yahweh-Raah, the Lord is my Shepherd. In every sense of the word, He is my Shepherd. I have all my needs met, I am cared for deeply and completely, and I am protected and loved. When I understand the magnitude of who He is I want for nothing. I am fully satisfied in Him.

Psalm 23:1 “A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

Isaiah saw him high and lifted up, sitting on His throne and the train of His garment filled the temple.

Isaiah 6:1 “In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

In Revelation 20:11 John sees Him on a great white throne.

Revelation 20:11 “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them”

I could go on and on because there are many more names that reveal God to us. I love to think about the character of my God, to come into His presence in awe at His majesty, His holiness, His mercy, His grace, His justice, and His compassions. These thoughts lift my spirit into His presence like nothing else. When I pray, express my adoration, and think of who He is and His magnificence, all my requests seem so small compared to who my God is. He is the I AM, and there is nothing or no one like Him. If you can read this and not get excited about seeing Him and serving Him, there is something wrong with your view of God. It may be that you have never surrendered completely, therefore He is not your God. It may be that you have allowed the things of this world to capture your attention and rob you of your time with Him. Consequently, you can’t see Him as He is. In either situation, I urge you to fall on your knees and rekindle or begin a right relationship with My God!
