Uniting Not Dividing

In our country over the past few years, there has been unrest and division among people that is like poison. It destroys relationships and if dwelled on pollutes the soul. People have become ultra-sensitive. Things that were once thought of as a good thing as now ruled as offensive. It happens in the workplace, schools, recreation, and even the church. However, the one place that we should be united, and the one place where we will always be united, is at the foot of the cross. When kneeling at the foot of the cross we are on level ground.

There is only one purpose for kneeling at the foot of the cross and that is to bring our petitions to God. The first petition we must all bring if we expect our request to be heard, is one of forgiveness. Romans 3:23 is a uniting verse. We are all sinners in need of a Savior. The color of your skin, the amount of money in your bank account, the education you have, your heritage, your sexual preference, or your marital status, does not give you an advantage or a disadvantage when coming to God. We must all come to God the same way, as a repentant sinner. If we want to be forgiven, we must come on God’s terms, not our own. No one, and I mean no one, has any merit that grants them a greater privilege to come to God than anyone else. God sees all sin the same and we are all guilty!

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Another uniting factor is that we all make our own choice, as to our relationship with God. No one can repent for you and no one can take it from you. In Acts 10:34-35, Peter declares that God is no respecter of certain people. He is available to anyone. It is not a matter of your heritage or your good works. It is the one who fears, meaning he who honors God and keeps His law, the one who is a true worshiper of God. It is the one who comes to God as a repentant sinner, placing their faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. God deals with each of us as an individual.

Act 10:34-35  “Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation, he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him”

There are some things that are set in stone and there is no changing them. What God has inspired men to write will be exactly as He said it would be. In Romans 14:11:12, every person will give an account of their life to God. Everyone will one day bow to Him as the Lord of their life, or as their judge. Which one He will be to you is determined by what you do now. There are no opportunities once you die. At death, our eternity is sealed then we will face God as it states in Hebrews 9:27.

Romans 14:11-12 “For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So, then every one of us shall give an account of himself to God.

Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

When it comes to Christianity, we are all on level ground. There are no divisions based on anything we can do. I think Christianity is so beautiful because we share a common bond. A few years ago, I had the privilege of visiting Brooklyn Tabernacle church in Brooklyn, New York. I imagine this is what Heaven will be like. There were people from a multitude of different cultures and countries. There were those God had saved from a life of prostitution, drugs, sexual perversions, liars, thieves, disobedience to parents, and any other sin you can name. Every color of skin was represented in the congregation. There were lawyers, doctors, and some who had no education, yet there we were, all one in our purpose, to honor and glorify God. We had a common goal, and it was the most important goal in life. The blood of Jesus Christ unites us, it does not divide us. There is nothing else in the world that puts people from diverse backgrounds together as equals like Christianity.
