A Favorite Song

A Favorite Song

All over the world music is played. It’s a universal language. Some play instruments, some sing, some hum a tune, and others whistle. Music can take many forms and I’ve never met anyone who didn’t have a favorite song or at least one they love to listen to. Couples usually have a song that’s their favorite, that they heard when they first started dating. The music is always important but most of all we choose a song because of what it says. We like it because we can relate to it in some way.

I direct our church choir and a couple of years ago we sang a song that is titled “Favorite Song of All.” I do believe there is some merit to its title. The Chorus goes like this.

“But His favorite song of all
Is the song of the redeemed
When lost sinners now made clean
Lift their voices loud and strong
When those purchased by His blood
Lift to Him a song of love
Nothing more He’d rather hear
Nor so pleasing to His ear
As His favorite song of all”

This is a song that no other creation can sing. Angels will sing and sing in Heaven now. They cry Holy, Holy, Holy to the Lord God Almighty. I’m sure it is beautiful, but still not our song. I’m sure the sounds of creation are a beautiful song to Him. When the wind is in the trees and the birds are singing it must be music to God’s ears. After all, he created the angels and the winds. However, in Revelation 14:3 we, those who have been forgiven of their sins and those who have been redeemed, will sing a new song before the throne of God. It is a song that only those who have been redeemed will be able to sing.

Revelation 14:3 “And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.”

The angels can’t sing this song they have not been forgiven. They were not made in the image of God himself. We do not become angels when we die, we are higher than the angels. In I Corinthians 6:3, we will judge the angels. Those angels that are in Heaven sing now, and those angels who rejected God and followed Satan can never enter Heaven again. There is no opportunity for redemption for them. Once they were cast out of Heaven their destiny was sealed.

We and we alone can sing the song of redemption. It is glorifying our God and thanking Him for the forgiveness of our sins. The redemption song is a song of love and gratitude. No one can understand this song but the redeemed. The only way to truly understand the language of praise and the truths that pertain to redemption is to be one of the redeemed!  We who were sinners condemned to eternal Hell can be grateful for all that we have in Christ.  It should make us want to sing that new song with excitement and joy. God loves to hear our thanksgiving and praise. He loves to hear our song of redemption.

Angels can’t understand how we feel because they have never felt the weight of sin that leads to eternal death. Creation has never contended with the curse of sin. Neither of these has ever had to battle temptation. They sing and I’m sure it pleases God, but we who are redeemed sing His favorite song.

Don’t let a day go by that you don’t thank him for all He has done for you. He’d love to hear you sing. No matter what your voice sounds like to others, it’s beautiful to God when used to praise and glorify Him. Sing His favorite song today, a song of redemption! Sing to the top of your lungs and rejoice that we have this opportunity.
