Psalm 118:24 “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” What does this verse say to you? For me it has simplistic and complex meanings. This, referring to the present time,the day that I am currently embracing. The writer of the Psalm saw it as a new day, another day God had given him.
In Psalm 118, the writer begins by giving thanks and talks about how his mercy endures forever. He continues to talk about how God answered his prayer when he was in distress. He praises God for everything, even the chastising of the Lord. He understood his trust and confidence must be in the Lord, not man. He shows great confidence in the Lord. Declaring that he had no reason to fear because God was on his side. In verses 10-17, he shares his confidence as he talks about the defeat of his enemies.
As he gets closer to verse 24, you can feel the excitement building, then he declares “This is the Day which the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!” This declaration was not a mere thought. It was exuberant praise!
This declaration should also be ours. We have the greatest reason of all to make this statement. He has set his love on us and made it possible for us to inherit eternal life.
He is my comforter, John 14:16 “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever;”
He is my provider, Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
He is my protector, Psalm 91:11 & 12 “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.”
He has given me all this and more for now and all eternity!
So, what better way to show my gratitude than to declare, “this is the day the Lord hath made”, to corporately worship with those who feel this same gratitude.
Yes, today is the day the Lord made. It is a day we keep the commandment in Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Will today be a day, morning and evening, where you will corporately worship?
If not, what is your excuse to not be faithful to all services?
Will you rejoice in him today for all he has done and who he is?
