A guide is someone who leads you in areas for which you are not familiar. The goal of the guide is to make your path safe and enjoyable. We are all on a journey through life and there are many pitfalls and snares to trap us and throw us off course. Sometimes unmarked territory and crooks in the road, can frustrate us to the point we don’t know which way to go.
For the believer, we have an internal being that is ready and willing to navigate the way for us. The Holy Spirit is there to guide and direct our paths. He promises all of those who have put their faith in Jesus that he will lead us into all truth. He’s like a built-in GPS, if we will follow he will always lead us the right way. He never makes a mistake.
John 16:13 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”
You may ask, “if he never messes up why do I keep making the wrong choices?” It’s because I don’t always listen. Remember when Mom would warn us about a situation, but we dismiss it because in our mind it will never happen to us. Yet, most of the time it did! If we want to get the right information we must listen and then obey. Yielding is an essential part of receiving His direction. If we are living in known sin, or picking and choosing what part of the Bible we will obey, we will not get clear direction from the Holy Spirit because there will be things between us and God. It’s like having a GPS without getting a signal from the satellite.
Psalm 66:18 “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:”
Sometimes we come to the point of decision and we are still puzzled what to do. It just seems like there is no clear direction. Examine the situation. Is the choice I am about to make one that will glorify God? Is this something that could hurt my testimony? Is the activity questionable? Is the decision self-willed or selfish?
If you are being led by the Holy Spirit, you will not have to make excuses for your actions and there will be a peace in your soul. He is a perfect guide, for imperfect people!
