He Is Able

He is able. When we hear these words our first response is usually, who is able? The creator of everything is able to do anything except sin. In this devotional, we will look at a few of the things He is able to do for us.

The first and most important thing God and God alone, is able to do for us is save our souls from an eternal hell. He gave His perfect Son as a sacrifice as payment for our sins. To satisfy a holy God, the sin debt must be paid by a perfect man. The only perfect man was the Godman Jesus. Hebrews 7:25 teaches us that He paid my debt that I could not pay, and now He sits at the right hand of the Father and intercedes for me!

Hebrews 7:25 “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.

As a Christian, I know He can and does answer prayer, but one day I came across Ephesians 3:20, and it stopped me in my tracks. This verse teaches us that God is able to answer our prayers beyond what we could imagine, not just above what we ask, but exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we ask, or think is possible! Exceedingly abundantly is to the extent we cannot express it. In I Corinthians 2:9, Paul is expressing this same thought. God wants to and will do more for His children than we can conceive. If you let this sink into your soul, all you will be able to do is praise and thank Him, and even that will feel inadequate.

Ephesians 3:20 “Now unto him, that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,”

I Corinthians 2:9  “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

He also is able to sympathize with those who are tempted, which is all of us. He was tempted in every area of life, huger or satisfying the physical body, materialism, all the kingdoms would be His, and his pride or ego was tempted. I John 2:16 reminds us we will be tempted in the same way. He suffered much more than we can imagine, and He feels our pain. The word succor means to aid or relieve. He is able.

I John 2:16 “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

Hebrews 2:18  For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted.

He is also able to keep those who have committed their lives to Him. This promise has helped me much through the years. Paul was not ashamed to push forward in sharing the truth of the gospel because His confidence was in the one who was able to keep what He had promised.

If you are a true follower of Jesus Christ, you too can find great comfort in knowing your eternal soul is entrusted to the one who is able to keep it and take you to Heaven when you die. If you profess Christ but are lacking in your obedience to His word, now is the time to make things right. Your love for the keeper of your soul will cause you to obey if you are a true follower.

II Timothy 1:12 “For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless, I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”
