What will Heaven be like? No one alive knows all that Heaven will be for the believer. We dream and imagine, but we still can’t truly know how wonderful it will be. I remember as a little girl, going outside, lying on my back, and looking up at the sky. I would watch the clouds float along and wonder what was beyond them. I remembered the bible lesson that taught about the ascension and remembered Jesus went up into the clouds. So, from that, I determined that Heaven was up.
Now that I am much, much, older I still sit and wonder sometimes what it will be like. I believe the greatest benefit of Heaven will be seeing Jesus face to face. We will see Jesus clearly, the beauty will be beyond our comprehension. “Now we walk by faith, not by sight.” (II Corinthians 5:7) I will be able to thank Him face to face for dying for me, for blessing me over and over throughout my life.
I Corinthians 13:12 “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”
We don’t know exactly what that will be like, but we know that the Bible says Jesus is the light of that city. There will be no need for the sun, the moon, or the stars. The Lamb of God, Jesus, is that light. Revelation 21:24 tells us those who are saved from nations all over the world will walk in that light. All will bring their glory and honor to the Light. It will be a light so pure and so lovely that we will never want to look anywhere else. We will have no fear of him, we will embrace Him with joy unspeakable, love unending, and total perfection.
Revelation 21:23-24 “And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honor into it.”
There will be no more curse of sin. We will be pure and perfect. No longer will we be as Paul said in Romans 7:19, doing the things that we do not want to do, and not doing the things that we want to do. A tongue twister for sure, but in Heaven, there will be no temptation to do what we don’t want to do. No temptation, no desire to do that which is not perfect. The curse will be over, and we will serve with pure bliss the throne of God.
Romans 7:19 “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.”
The greatest reason there will be no more curse is because Satan will not be there. The devil has no purpose there, he cannot draw the saints away from serving God or tempt us in any way. We will not be subject to him, as our first parents were in the garden. That alone will make Heaven sweeter! He will be bound and thrown into the Lake of Fire where he will never be able to escape.
Revelation 22:3 “And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:”
We will never be bored with the experience of spending time with God. We were created for Him and by Him. Our fellowship with Him will be perfect and eternal. When Adam and Eve were created, one of the events of the day was to walk in the garden in the cool of the day with God.
Genesis 3:8 “And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day:”
I John 1:3 “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.”
To have fellowship directly with God is ours, because of the work of grace by Jesus on the cross. It is only through his work that we can be called the children of God and we can experience the family relationship.
John 1:12-13 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
Heaven will also be a place where there will be no tears. There will be no more death, no pain, and no sorrow. If you have ever sat at the bedside of someone dying, ever been in excruciating pain, or with someone in constant pain, you can understand the magnitude of this blessing. What an awesome place this will be!
Revelation 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
I could go on and on about the glory of Heaven. Yet, there are no words that can describe all that it will be, even Paul said in II Corinthians 12 when caught up into Heaven in a vision, that the words he heard were not lawful for a man to utter. The glory of God was so great and powerful that he couldn’t even talk about it.
II Corinthians 12:1-5 “It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities”
Though we can’t grasp it all while here on earth, we can rest assured Heaven is real. We who have accepted Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior can know beyond any doubt we will experience all that we know and so much more. Jesus promised us before he went back to Heaven to sit at the right hand of the father as an advocate for us, that he is preparing a place for us!
John 14:2-4 “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.”
If you are not ready, GET READY!
