In the past few years, our church has seen an influx of babies, babies, babies! They are all sweet blessings. It’s a beautiful site to see all the little ones coming to church with their happy parents. Sometimes happy, sometimes not so happy, but praise God their parents persevere.
A few years back one of those sweet babies was a child that was adopted. This little boy has been such a blessing. This adoption reminded my husband and me of the story of Moses. Both were headed for sure destruction until someone took them in as their own. In a moment of time, their lives were changed forever.
The little boy that was adopted in our church is loved beyond measure. It’s such a blessing to watch how his dad smothers him with kisses and loves on him. I’m amazed as Mom holds him as if she can’t let go. It’s a love that transcends all other loves, except our Heavenly Father’s love.
We too are adopted, if we have been saved. At the point of salvation, we become a child of God.
John 1:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”
And because we are sons/daughters of the most high God he has sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts and we can cry Abba Father.
Galatians 4:5 – 7 “To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”
Romans 8:15 “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father”
Abba Father is a more intimate term referring to the father. It was used by Jesus but it is also available to us as his children. The verse says, “we cry” meaning we can express our feelings due only to a real father. We can enjoy the affection, and protection given by a real father to his child. We have that in God. Romans 8:17 says we are heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.
I can’t read those words without thinking about crawling up in God’s lap and allowing his protection and love to flow over me. It’s a precious feeling to know that I have a Heavenly Father that is the creator of all, ruler of the universe, and yet loves me intimately with an everlasting love. I will never get over why he loves me that way, but I am so thankful he does.
Have you experienced the true salvation whereby you can cry “Abba Father”?
Do you have that intimate relationship with him or do you think of God as some ruler that you can’t get close to?
When was the last time you felt God holding you?
Will you seek to be that close to him today?
So glad that my Heavenly Father loves even me!
