You may be asking yourself why I didn’t finish the sentence “Jesus is?” If I didn’t place another word with this statement it would still be true. He is. He was with God from all eternity past. He was not created, nor did He have a beginning. These truths are hard for us to imagine. We are so geared toward beginnings and endings that our minds can’t fathom someone without either. God is one God, expressed in three persons. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. While all three are one, they each have descriptions in the Bible that help us to understand them.
Jesus is called the Word in John 1:1-3, and He was the Godhead by which all things were made. He may have been called “the Word” because He is the means by which God spoke to us “in these last days.” Words are also how thoughts and commands are conveyed. It is how God communicates with us. Hebrews 1:1-3 teaches that God used prophets to speak to men in the Old Testament times, but now He uses Jesus, the Word. This “Word” communicates the will of the Father to man. The “Word” was used in the Old Testament in Isaiah 45:12 and Isaiah 49:13 the Aramaic for “I” is translated as “by my Word.”
John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.”
Hebrews 1:1-3 “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;”
While all three persons of the Godhead were involved in creation. Jesus is spoken of specifically as the creator in Colossians 1:16. Jesus is the Word and the Creator. Hebrews 11:3 is foundational to our faith that we believe He created everything. Genesis 1:1 is the foundation of the Bible.
Colossians 1:16 “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:”
Hebrews 11:3 “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
He is now seated at the right hand of the Father and He makes intercession for us. He pleads our cause before the mercy seat in the heavens. Hebrews 7:25 tells us, this is why he ascended back to Heaven. He is our creator, the “Word,” by which we know all that God intends for us, and He now intercedes for me.
Romans 8:34 “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.”
Hebrews 7:25 “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.”
All we need to know about God the Father we can learn from Jesus. It is so comforting to know that Jesus is the Word, my creator, and my intercessor. I am so thankful for who He is.
Excellent
