Have you ever met people who seemed or thought they knew it all? Sometimes their information was correct, but most of the time it was not as accurate as they thought it was. Their pride was the dominating force in their lives, and you could not convince them they were wrong. This is not a new attitude it was from Satan himself in the garden and Adam and Eve were deceived into believing that God was holding out on them. Satan had convinced them he knew more about the situation than God did. He was a “know it all” but he was and is a liar.
In John chapter 8 Jesus is speaking in the temple proclaiming His truth. The Jewish leaders were not there to gain knowledge but to prove Him wrong. They were “know it all’s” and were steeped in their pride. In John 8:21-27 Jesus is trying to teach them of the events to come. That he is the Messiah, God in the flesh, but they would not believe. They accused Him of blasphemy in John 10:33. Jesus was telling them the truth about who He was, but they would not believe. “The Jews answered him, saying, for a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makes thyself God.” Blasphemy is speaking unjustly about God. It is attributing something to Him that is against His nature, and His holiness, claiming to be equal to Him, or assuming His place in a situation. Jesus did not blaspheme because He was God in the flesh!
John 8:21-27 “Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come. And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning. I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. They understood not that he spoke to them of the Father.”
Sometimes we are no different than the Jewish people or many other religions who refuse to accept the truth of who Jesus is. History supports what Jesus said. The Holy Spirit comes to us and dwells within us when we believe in Him and He convinces us of the truth of God’s word. We have His word that has been preserved through thousands of years, yet we still want to do things our way. We want Christ, but we want Him on our terms. We start out surrendering our lives to Him, but when following requires painful change, we ignore it and make excuses to hang on to our ways. We justify ourselves. We proclaim God’s love above His holiness. While God’s love sent Jesus to be our sacrifice it was His holiness that required it. The angels cry “holy, holy, holy” in Isaiah 6:2-3 when Isaiah receives a vision from God. In Revelations John receives a vision and the beast cries out day and night in Heaven “Holy, Holy, Holy.” It will do us well to pay attention to what is going on around the throne. The One who knows all and is above all is to be praised as a Holy God. He is to be worshiped and obeyed as a Holy God. He is the only one who knows all!
Isaiah 6:2-3 “Above it stood the seraphim’s: each one had six wings; with twain, he covered his face, and with twain, he covered his feet, and with twain, he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.”
Revelations 4:6-11 “And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind. And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. And when those beasts give glory and honor and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who lives for ever and ever, The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that lives for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
