Level Ground

The term level ground means to be equal to, or even with. Through the years I have helped my husband with a number of building projects. One of the most important tools that I learned to use was the level. It is a tool you use to line everything up so that it will fit together properly. Without this tool not only would all the pieces not fit properly, but your project would also be crooked. Being on level ground with others means we see ourselves as equals. There is only one place that displays this beautiful picture of equality. At the foot of the cross where the ground is completely level.

God has always been available to anyone who would seek Him. Those who lived before the cross were saved by faith, but it was a faith in the Messiah to come. Before the cross, the law was given, but it was given to show us a need for the cross. No one can keep the law perfectly. It pointed us to the cross.

Galatians 3:24-26 “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”

People all over the world are prejudice against something. Some because of the color of skin, others because of religion. Society pits those with money against those without. It makes a division between the educated and those without the opportunity to have a formal education. On and on it goes where we have separated people based on things that are superficial and temporary.

I find the beauty of the true church of Christ, those who believe and have put their faith in Him, to be equality. The real church is the only institution in the world where all nations can have common ground. It doesn’t matter how much money or education you have, or what your rank in society, because we are all saved the same way. We are all entitled to the same privileges, and there is no favoritism because of birth, beauty, or intelligence. We all must confess that we are sinners, and are all saved by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Therefore, we all have the same privileges as children of God.

Galatians 3:27-28 “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”

In Christianity, we all come to the communion table together. We are to treat all as equal and love all as a brother or sister. The Pastor should show no preference in helping one who is poor or rich, weak or strong, intelligent or ignorant. Those in the congregation should have no preference of people. While it is true, we have those in the congregation that we have more in common with and enjoy their company more, it shouldn’t keep us from getting to know as many as we can, and show them the love of Christ.

Christianity is unique to all other religions in this matter of equality. For instance, in India the Brahmin is regarded as the favorite of Heaven by his birth, all others are to be inferior to him. Other religions do much the same thing. If you study them, you will see how they have determined certain people have a greater favor of God. Christianity regards all people as one blood and esteems all people to be equal in the matter of salvation.

Act 17:26 “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

The church should be an example of what Heaven will be like where we will all worship, love, and experience the goodness of God together.

Revelation 5:9 “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

I am so glad to be a part of the universal church of God where I have brothers and sisters all over the world. I think the beauty of a good church is that it has people of every color, people of every social status, where the doctor isn’t esteemed higher than the person who is out of work. I love the fact that much can be accomplished when a person who can’t read, can work alongside a scholar of the word. Only in Christianity can you have such contrast, yet still be equal in God’s eyes. You still gain the same access to God. Only because at the foot of the cross there is level ground.
