We should all know that we were created for a purpose. God created us in His own image. He created mankind to have dominion over the rest of His creation. God created mankind to have fellowship with him. He created us to love Him and worship Him. In the beginning, that is what mankind experienced. God spent time with Adam and Eve, he walked with them and talked with them in the cool of the day. Even though their sin changed things for them and us forever, God still longs to talk to us and have fellowship with us. He longed for it so much, that he was willing to sacrifice His only Son so that we could be redeemed back to fellowship with Him.
Genesis 1:26 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that crept upon the earth.”
Genesis 3:8 “And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.”
Each one of us was created with a purpose in mind. and the main purpose is to glorify God. However, I also believe that in doing that, he has a specific plan for each of our lives. It is up to us to seek God and allow His Holy Spirit to guide us in the direction of His will for us.
Esther was a young woman that God used greatly. She was a young Jewish woman living in exile in Persia. Because of Queen Vashti’s disobedience to the King, he denounces her as Queen. The King has his servants gather a large number of young beautiful women from the kingdom and bring them to the palace to find one to replace the Queen. Esther was a Jewish girl, and the cousin of Mordecai, from the tribe of Benjamin. Mordecai had been like a father to her and continued to instruct her through the process to become the Queen. However, it is kept a secret that she was a Jew. Revealing this, at this time, would have almost assuredly meant certain death.
God loved the Jewish people, and little did Esther know that God had created her to gain their freedom. He had made her very beautiful, and she had great finesse, but God did not make her this way so she could use it for her own glory and satisfaction. In Esther 4:14, Mordecai tells her that she had been created for “such a time as this.” She had been placed in a royal position. She could use it for God’s purpose, or she could keep silent, and just enjoy the spender of living in a palace and being the Queen of Persia.
Esther 4:14 “For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
She was given a divine moment. She could seize it and be used by God, or she could ignore it and cower down in fear. We are all given moments where we can stand for what is right and pleasing to God, or we can choose to do what seems to us, the most comfortable and path of least resistance.
I believe the Bible teaches that there are no accidents in the life of the believer. God’s timing is providential. When Esther accepted her responsibility to present herself to the King, it took great courage and faith in God. She knew the King had the option to reject her and have her put to death, or he could extend the scepter and receive her. This divine moment would change everything for her and the Jewish people.
Romans 8:28 is one of my favorite verses, especially when circumstances seem to go in a direction that I don’t understand. God can and will orchestrate things to work out for our good, if we love Him, and are living according to His plan or purpose for our life. We may not understand, but we need to hang on and trust God to reveal to us, in His time, how it will be for our good.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Mordecai was clear when he told Esther she could be the one to save the people if she would obey. The same is true for us. He will use us to accomplish His will if we are ready to obey, but if we don’t, He will use someone else. God’s will shall be done. It’s up to us if we want to fulfill the plan He intended for us.
Esther obeyed. She as they say, “worked the plan.” She did not try to run ahead of God or lag behind. She did as she had been instructed by God, through her cousin Mordecai. God’s plan is always perfect, but we must be in tune with God to know what we are to do. We must be willing to study and pray for His guidance and then follow.
Esther 5:2 “And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favor in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. So, Esther drew near, and touched the top of the scepter.”
Esther 8:11 “Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, both little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey”
