Me and God

I’ve tried to witness to people many times, and share what God’s word says about what He requires of us, only to be told, “me and God have an understanding, I’m ok.” Those who think this way are deceived, and they are putting themselves as equal to God. They act as if they have an edge with God that others don’t. When I am told this I usually responded with silence because if a person understands anything about God they know that God is no respect of persons. He loves us all the same. He didn’t send His Son to die for a few and just let the rest slide on their own merit. There would be no justice in that and God is just and holy.

Romans 2:11 “For there is no respect of persons with God.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Act 17:31 “Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.”

I Peter 1:16 “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

While God is a very personal God, speaking to each of our hearts individually, His plan of redemption is universal. There is no other way to God but through His Son Jesus. Every command is written for everyone, and all Christians are expected to obey. There is no private interpretation of scripture. While you may not understand what the Bible is saying in certain verses, there are no contradictions. When you think you understand something, but you’re not able to connect the dots so that one passage doesn’t seemingly contradict another, it doesn’t change the facts. It just means you haven’t discovered all the pieces to the puzzle.

II Peter 1:20 “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

God’s word is a love letter to us, but it is also an instruction book. Following the instructions will give us the right results to have the kind of life that God intended for us. For anyone to assume that certain instructions were optional, and we are to pick and chose what we want to obey, is like buying a machine that needs to be put together. All the parts are in the box, but because you don’t know where some of them go you deem them unnecessary. This kind of mentality may be dangerous if the electrical part is put together wrong, you could even die from such actions. However, when it comes to your beliefs about God it can change your life for all eternity. If you are wrong you will spend eternity in Hell. For this, there is no recourse. We die once and then we will stand before God to be judged.  When we die our eternity is sealed. There is no more chance to make things right with God. What you think will not matter on that day, but it will matter if you have accepted Jesus as your personal Savior and lived in obedience to His word.

Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment”

Your “me and God” mentality is only of value if you are submitting to Him as your Lord and Savior. We all come to God the same way if we expect to inherit eternal life. There are no shortcuts, no exceptions, and no forgiveness after we die. If “me and God” are going to spend eternity together I must submit to His will and His ways. I cannot choose how I will go to Heaven. God has made it clear there is only one way to Him. There is only one way to inherit eternal life and that is through His Son Jesus. He is THE way, THE truth, and THE  life.

John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
