There are so many days in my life I have felt thirsty for God. A thirst that only He can fill. In Psalm 63:1 and 42:1-2, David is seeking after God. His soul’s desire is to be filled with God and God alone. While here on this earth in these mortal bodies we will constantly be thirsting. Just like a drink of water today won’t sustain you for tomorrow, neither does the filling of our soul from God today. There must be a daily filling to be satisfied in Him. One day we will no longer need a refill for we will be with the Lamb. Our filling will be complete. The goal of reaching eternity and spending eternity with the one who died for us will be our reality.
Revelation 7:15-17 “Therefore are they before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”
To achieve any goal there must be a time of preparation. This goal of thirsting or hungering no more is no different. If we are to be in this number, we must be truly sold out to Jesus here on this earth. There must be a love for Him that causes us to yearn to be with Him. We should want to feast upon His word. There should be a desire to drink from His fountain of living water.
Jesus declares himself to be the provider and sustainer of life in John chapter 6. He reminds them that while in the desert the Israelites were fed with manna, bread from Heaven, and quail. Every day it was fresh and ready for them. All they had to do was gather it up and eat. There were specific instructions to only gather enough for each day except on the day before the Sabbath. On that day they were to gather enough for two days so that the Lord’s Day was consecrated until Him.
What can we learn from that example? First, he is our sustainer. He will provide all we need, and when we need it. It may not come early, and it won’t be late. Second, we must seek Him and do it His way. We can’t decide we want Jesus on our terms and expect Him to react to us as if He were Santa Claus. Third, there is a reward to those who seek Him and continue to seek Him.
John 6:31-35 “Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
I have tried to imagine what it will be like when we thirst and hunger no more. What will it be like to be at the feet of Jesus where He will wipe away all tears forevermore? Words nor our imaginations can’t fathom what it will truly be like. The best we can imagine won’t compare to the reality of Heaven. Until then I am to be thirsty and hungry for Him each day. Each day He will fill me and that will hold me until tomorrow when my seeking will result in His filling again. It’s a process but it’s a process that I look forward to each day. If something happens and I don’t get my morning time with Him, it just feels like my day is out of whack. My fuel tank is empty, and my strength is weak.
How about you? Have you experienced this filling of Christ? Are you seeking Him each day? When was the last time you felt hungry for Him and feasted on His word until you were full? If your intentions are to be at the Lambs’ feet one day, and your goal fulfilled you must be working toward that today. Meditate on these thoughts today.
