When I go to the dictionary to find a definition for faithful this is what I find; true, devoted, staunch, constant, and loyal. The word implies qualities of stability, dependability, and devotion. Faithful implies long-continued and steadfast fidelity to whatever one is bound to by a pledge, duty, or obligation. True to one’s promise. That’s my God! Psalm 18:2 “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”
In I Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
God can be nothing but faithful. His word is his bond and Titus 1:2 tells us he cannot lie! If God said it, that settles it and it’s done! The reason Paul brings up the truth that God is faithful is to show his reason for believing that the Christians at Corinth are still saved. God assures them in Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you, will also perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Paul assures them that they are kept by the power of God. He is faithful!
How do we handle a frightening situation where we are starting to doubt God’s protection? Do we remember his works and His words of faithfulness?
We need to remember he is true to His word, and He will not leave us. He promised he will never leave us in Hebrews 13:5b. We need to be like Paul and Silas in Acts 16. They were sentenced to prison at Philippi. They were stripped of their garments, beaten, and thrown into the inner prison. Yet, they were so confident in their God that they began to sing praises unto Him at midnight. God stepped in, caused an earthquake, loosed their chains, and opened the door. They did not take advantage of the open door but assured the guard they were still there. The soldier was ready to take his own life because He was responsible for his prisoners. Paul not only saved his physical life by not leaving, but he also led him to the salvation of his eternal soul. The soldier brought them out, washed their wounds, took them to his house, and he and his house were saved. Wow, what a faithful God we have! Had Paul doubted God’s faithfulness to do what was ultimately best for all, this man and his family may never have been saved. Do you believe like Paul?
It was God who created us, it was God who loved us enough to make a way for redemption for mankind. He knew we would sin before the foundation of the world and he made a plan. By his grace, and through our faith in Jesus Christ, he made a plan so we could be brought back, redeemed, to become joint heirs with His Son.
We are the called of God. The chosen of God. The elect of God. We are enriched by God’s grace – simply because we believe in God’s Word and trust the Lord Jesus Christ for our salvation. My God is faithful and just to fulfill all that He has promised, to those that are called and chosen – to those who trust His Word.
I Thessalonians 5:24 “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”
It was God who planned the redemption of mankind before the foundation of the world, and by the grace of God, through faith in Christ, we have become the children of God, and joint heirs with the beloved Son of His love. We are set apart unto God and called into fellowship with His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Those who trust in His redeeming blood for salvation have been promised eternal life, a heavenly home, and joy for evermore – according to the riches of His grace.
Even when we are not faithful, He is faithful.
II Timothy 2:13 “If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.”
I Thessalonians 5:24 “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”
Whatever God promises he is able to perform and will perform. I may promise you something with good intentions, but I am human, and I fail. My intentions may be great, but my abilities may fail. Our God is not like that, he can and will do what he says he will.
Romans 4:21 “And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.”
My God is always Faithful, is yours?
