I could not tell you the many times I have been somewhere and wanted to escape but saw no way out. Oh, there was a door, but it would have been very rude to leave when I wanted to. Right now, escape rooms are the big thing for entertainment. An escape room, also known as an “escape game”, is a physical adventure game in which players solve a series of puzzles and riddles using clues, hints, and strategy, to complete the objectives at hand. When you complete everything the correct way you are able to escape. There are some things, that no matter how hard you try, or how many clues are given, there will be no escaping them.
One of the things we cannot escape is the presence of God. The Psalmist in Psalms 139 writes these verses.
Psalm 139:7 “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I go to Heaven you are there even if I make my bed in Hell you are there.”
Heaven, we understand, is where God dwells, and He is preparing it for us. So, of course, we know He is there, but what about the second part of that verse? How will God be in Hell? In His power and justice, God will be there. We see in Revelation 14:10 that God’s wrath is the fire that will there burn everlastingly.
Revelation 14:10 “The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:”
If we could take wings like an eagle and soar to the uttermost parts of the earth or dwell in the depths of the sea we still could not escape.
Psalm 139:9 “If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;” Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.”
In the darkest night, the most dangerous prison cell, and the most remote jungles, God is still there.
Psalm 139:11 “If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.”
There is also no escape from Hell. Once a person has sealed their fate by denying God and dying in that state, there is no escape. Hell is as real as Heaven. It was prepared for the devil and his angels, however, those who reject Jesus Christ have chosen to follow Satan. There is no neutral ground. You are either for God or you are against Him and the alternative to God is Satan. Those who are cast into Hell will spend eternity with the Devil. Eternity, that’s forever, think about it. It is hard for us to imagine because everything we know has a beginning and an end, but Hell will not. The devil will be bound and those who reject Christ will be with him to suffer as he will suffer.
Revelation 20:10 “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.”
Matthew 25:41 “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:”
There will be screams and groaning for help, for just a touch of relief, but there will be none. From this place, there will be no escape!
Matthew 13:49-50 “So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
As much as those who will spend eternity in Hell want to, they can’t get away from God. His wrath will be a constant reminder of every opportunity they had to gain Heaven. This will only add to their torment.
Another escape that is not needed is for believers. We as believers have a promise we will not be able to escape God’s love. If you have given your life to Him, and are seeking to please and serve Him, you are safe in His love. From His love, there is no escape. That is a promise that we can cling to and feel safe knowing we have that love now and for all eternity.
Romans 8:37-39 “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
These areas with no escape routes are real! Two of them are wonderful, and no one would want to escape. Hell, on the opposite end of Heaven is a place no one would want to go. But by rejecting Jesus they choose Hell, and after being placed there by God, there is no escape. It is by choice that we go to Hell. We must step over the blood of Jesus to go to Hell.
If you are reading this, then you have the opportunity and means to know how you too can secure Heaven as your home. Don’t waste the opportunity. You can know for sure you are on your way to Heaven and you will never need, or want, to look for an escape route.
