Have you ever had anyone tell you that there is none like you? Sometimes it is meant as a compliment because you are special to them, at other times it is said in sarcasm because the way you react, or act is shocking to them. The truth is there is none like you. Each one of us is unique in the way God made us. Even identical twins who are 100% identical genetically when conceived start to acquire cellular mutations as their cells divide and this creates slight changes in their DNA as they age.
In Psalm 139: 14-16 the psalmist is praising God for creating him and knowing everything about him. He understands that God was with him and acknowledges God as wise, holy, and good. He wants to give honor, love, and gratitude to Him. He is publicly exalting God as the greatest of all. There is none like Him. The psalmist’s words can be our words as we understand the care, He took to make us a unique individual. He knows all and is above all. Nothing is hidden from Him. Only our God can create life. He took dirt and made Adam into a body like men have today. He took Eve from Adam and created a woman that could reproduce what He had created. Think about what kind of God can do that! There is none like Him!
Psalm 139:14-16 “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knowest right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book, all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
In Psalm 89:6-8 the psalmist asks the question who in heaven or earth can be compared to the Lord? There is none mighty like Him and He is to be feared and held in reverence. He is above all in His strength and His faithfulness is always the same. It is part of who He is, and He never changes.
Psalm 89:6-8 For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD? God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him. O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?”
In Psalm 86:8 David says, “Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works.” Not only are there no other gods like Him but there and none whose works compare to His. Later in verse 13, he praises God for His great mercy toward Him and how He delivered him from imminent danger and spared his life. He continues to praise God for being a god like no other, as he talks about His compassion, graciousness, His longsuffering, and His plentiful mercy toward him.
Psalm 86:13 “For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.”
Psalm 86:15 “But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.”
He offers to each of us the same attributes and blessings that He showed to David and others. In Acts 10:34 Peter speaks to us and makes a profound statement that should encourage us all. “Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons.” He can and wants to be your almighty, gracious, merciful, compassionate, longsuffering, all-powerful God. There is none like Him and there never will be. There is no one who loves you more or wants to have a relationship with you more than God does. He wanted it so badly that He gave His only Son to die in your place for your sins.
Take some time today to meditate on what a great God we have when we have placed our faith in Him. There is none like Him and He created none like you to spend eternity with Him.
