Did You Know

This title, “Did you know,” could go in many different directions. I could ask all sorts of questions about things you may not know about. I could ask questions about the human body and how it functions, and it would probably interest you enough to ask me questions. I could ask about the weather, which might catch your attention if you’re planning an outdoor activity. However, the most important question anyone can ask has to do with your eternal destiny. You may have asked Jesus to forgive you of your sins and come into your heart; therefore, your interest would only be piqued for a moment, but did you know that statistics tell us that over 32% of the world’s population has never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ? That is a staggering number of over 2.6 billion people.

Did you know that this number only represents those who have never heard? It does not come close to the number of those who may have heard but do not understand and are therefore still not saved. How can that not affect us when we hold a lifeline to Heaven that could be theirs? I feel certain that if any of my readers were to pass a burning building and hear screams and cries for help, we would do all that we could to rescue them. At the very least, we would call 911 to give those inside a chance of being saved from the flames. In the following verses, we see Jesus speaking in Matthew and Paul in II Thessalonians about the awfulness and the permanence of hell for those who do not know Jesus. Those who do not know Him must depart from Him because He never knew them. They will be sent to a hell that was made for the devil and his angels. They will suffer along with the devil forever!

Matthew 25:41  Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Matthew 25:46  And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

II Thessalonians 1:9 “They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might.”

We have been given a great privilege and an awesome responsibility to share the good news of Jesus. We have the answers, and God expects us to go and tell. For those who are not in our reach, we must be willing to sacrifice to send others to them. This is not an either-or situation; we are to tell those in our area and financially support those who can go where we cannot. Paul places the responsibility on those who know Christ.

Romans 10:14-15 asks us this question. “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? … How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

Did you know that you will give an account to God when you stand before Him for all of those you could have told or sent but you refused because you were too busy, too shy, or too concerned with your own agenda to care about others.

Ezekiel 3:18 “When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou gave him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.”

Now that you know you are accountable to God for telling others about Him, what will you do? I pray that you would take sharing your faith seriously. Can you imagine what it will be like in Heaven one day when someone you told about Jesus thanks you for sharing the truth about eternal life with them.
