Security is a feeling that everyone is looking for. The world is in a totally insecure state of affairs. The stock markets that run our economy are unstable, the political scene is insecure, and the world is full of wars leaving millions without a home. We live in an insecure world. Some are seeking to find security in a job, others in relationships. Regardless of how secure we may feel, all of these situations are fallible. The only place we can have security we can trust completely is in Christ.
Those who are Christians know that as long as I place my faith in Christ, I cannot be separated from His love. Romans 8:35 teaches us that no matter what we go through He is with us, and His love is eternal.
Romans 8:35 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”
We can feel secure that He is always working on our behalf. We sometimes don’t understand the purpose of situations we find ourselves in, but we trust God is molding us for our good according to Romans 8:28. The ultimate good of our situations is found in verse 29. He is allowing things in our lives to make us more like Jesus. Isn’t that our ultimate goal, to live up to our name “Christian,” meaning little Christ?
Romans 8:28-29 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
I can feel secure because I am free from condemnation forever! Romans 8: 1-2, teaches us this truth. When we repent of our sins, God forgives all our sins. He no longer holds them against us. This truth is freedom from condemnation, and it gives us immense joy.
Romans 8:1-2 “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”
I have a home that is secured for me when I die. There are multitudes in this world that are without physical homes, but if they have trusted Christ as their Savior, they can rest assured they have an eternal home not made with hands.
Philippians 3:20-21 “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.”
II Corinthians 5:1 “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”
Although we serve a just God, and we live in a world where justice is sought for the wrongs done, we can find security and comfort, that with God we can find mercy and grace. Hebrews 4:16 teaches us that we can come boldly to the throne of grace. Our God, the King of Glory, welcomes us to come to Him. We are promised that when we do come, He will extend His mercy and His grace to us. Because He is a just God the penalty for sin must be paid. Because of His love for us, He sent His Son to suffer and pay the debt for all who believe and trust in Him. As His child, we can approach Him with confidence and security that we can find help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16 “Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
We have no need to fear because our security is in the one who holds the world in His hands. We may not understand some of life’s situations, but He does, and there is great security in knowing He is in control.
