Son, She Is An Entrepreneur

Today we look at the entrepreneurial spirit of the godly woman of Proverbs 31. She is not only a wife that makes sure everything inside the home is done to the best of her ability, she keeps her eyes focused looking for opportunities outside the home to make life better for her family. I would like to have known the mother of this woman, because it is apparent, she was trained well. She was taught to be a very disciplined person.

In verse 16 she is looking for good investments. She sees a field and considers it. She does not buy it on a whelm, she thinks about it, and weighs out in her mind the benefits there could be to this purchase. We too should think about the way we are spending our money. She was looking long term at how this purchase could be used to the greatest benefit for her family. It would take strength and determination to turn this purchase into profit, but she was up for the challenge. She has prepared herself physically to work hard. She has taken care of her body so that the work she does outside the home does not deplete the energy she will need inside the home.

Pro 31:16-17 “She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.”

She “preceiveth” that what she has done is good and profitable. Before she moves to the next project, she determines the benefit of what she has already done. When finished outside the home she continues inside the home. Because she has taken care of herself, she has the physical energy and mental toughness to continue to work into the night.

Proverbs 31:18-19 “She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.”

How does this woman find the strength to do all of this? She works! If you maintain a household, you will be very physical. Think about mopping a floor, carrying baskets full of laundry, unloading a car full of groceries, and all the other chores you do. They all require muscles. If you do all there is to taking care of a family and home, you get a very good workout.

A large percentage of women work outside the home, and when they get home, they have nothing left for the husband and children. The best of who they are has been spent on others, not their home. I sympathize with these women. Many are in situations where they have no choice but to work outside the home, and they are in a vicious cycle. Then there are others that can manage both beautifully. If you are struggling with giving your best to your family, turn your heart to God for help. First, look at your physical condition and discipline yourself to take proper care of yourself. Eat right, get the proper amount of sleep, and get some exercise. Thirty minutes of brisk walking at lunchtime can help boost your energy level. Second, be very organized, so that you are not wasting precious time on things that don’t matter.

Don’t read the credits of this woman and give up. We are all a work in progress and God wants us all to be this kind of woman. With God as your help, you can become a virtuous woman. No matter how old we are, or how long we have been a Christian, there is still much to learn on how to be all that God wants us to be. Stay in the process one day at a time.

In I Corinthians 15:58 Paul exhorts believers to be steadfast, unmovable and always abounding in our work for the Lord. He reminds us that what we are doing is not in vain. God sees our heart and when we are seeking Him, engaged in His will, and promoting His glory He will reward it in His time.

I Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
