When thinking of princesses of the Bible you may not think of Eve. When we speak of Eve, often it is in the context of how she listened to Satan and sinned, plunging all of mankind into the depravity of sin. However, she was the very first princess. She was the first daughter of the King of Kings. She was perfect in every way when God created her. She, like Adam, was created in the image of God. She was blessed by God and would become the mother of all people.
Genesis 1:27-28 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moved upon the earth.”
She held the qualities of true nobility. God gave Eve the blessing of bearing children. Three of them are mentioned in scripture, but we know there were more. She had daughters who would marry her sons. Because Eve and Adam were perfect, there was no problem with their children marrying each other and having children. At this point in time, there were no genetic defects. It wasn’t until Adam and Eve sinned that mankind would no longer be perfect.
As a princess, she also had everything she desired at her disposal. The beauty of the earth was hers for enjoyment. The fruit of the earth was hers for the taking. She had dominion over all the animals, fish of the sea, and birds of the air. Being perfect also gave her a brain that far surpassed anyone on earth now. She really was a “know it all.” Our knowledge may seem to be superior to those of the past, but we have accumulated knowledge. This is the knowledge that is built upon the discoveries of others. We study what others knew and we continue to search further and add to it. Adam and Eve did not need to be taught anything. Their intellect was perfect.
Unfortunately, like many princesses of today, Eve yielded to the flesh and made a wrong decision. Her decision would affect everyone. No one will escape the punishment for her poor choice. God made her with a free will. She could have said no to the serpent that was being controlled by Satan, but she yielded. She not only yielded to the temptation she offered the fruit to her husband Adam. Now both were guilty before God.
Genesis 3:1-6 “Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree, which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
Nothing would ever be the same. Adam would now have to work hard in the soil to grow their food. Eve would now have great pain when bearing children. Their fellowship with God would be broken. They were banned from the perfect garden, the land with plenty of food and beauty.
While their eternal destiny was changed in a moment of disobedience from Heaven to Hell, there is evidence they were saved. They like all other Old Testament saints, would place their faith in a Messiah to come. We find in Genesis 3:15, God making Satan embodied in the serpent, an enemy of Eve. He also promised a Savior to come that would be born of a woman and “bruise the heel” of the serpent. Through this Savior, all who would believe in Him and follow in obedience would have eternal victory over this enemy. In Genesis 3:21, God provided a covering for them by killing animals and using their hides for clothing. This is symbolic of the covering for our sins by the blood of Jesus Christ. One of the greatest indications of a restored relationship with God is the way they instructed their children. In Genesis 4:3-4, Adam and Eve were teaching their children to bring sacrifices to the Lord. They were teaching them how to worship God.
Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”
Genesis 3:21 “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.”
Genesis 4:3-4 “And in process of time, it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:”
Eve was a perfect princess from creation. Yet, her disobedience brought mankind into a state of imperfection. However, one day we too will have the experience of true perfection when we enter Heaven. We enter into this world a sinner in need of a Savior, but God provided a covering for our sins if we will accept His Son and follow in obedience. God in His omniscience knew mankind would sin. He gave us a choice to choose or reject Him as our Master. In I Peter 1:18-20, God teaches us this beautiful truth of redemption. We enter this world a slave to sin but can leave a prince or princess to the King.
I Peter 1:18-20 “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,”
