Thankful For An Awesome God

How often do you sit and meditate on how awesome God is? If you do, you’ll have to stop before you finish because there’s no end to His awesomeness!

Think about it. The God we serve created everything in 6 days and rested on the 7th. Did God need to rest? No, he does not – never! He was laying out a plan for our lives. Work six days, rest, and worship the seventh.

Psalm 121:4-5 “Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right

He is watching us 24/7, protecting, and guiding us to what is best for us. Most of the time, we are not even aware of how he has worked in our lives. How shameful for us to assume things just happen.

On this day three years ago I was sick in the hospital and God as always showed His awesomeness at the perfect time. I had been sick with COVID for 2 weeks and in the hospital for a few days. This day became one of those God things that I was not fully aware of until the next day. I had a severe reaction to one of the drugs. The worst reaction was my throat closing up to restrict my breathing. I knew what was happening and got help quickly. Of course, the Doctor had to be called. His nurse practitioner answered the call and had them do an IV dose of Benadryl A.S.A.P. I did not know the woman on the other end of the phone. However, the lady I had never met was the wife of my son’s best friend. She had been praying for me and checking on me all week. She had my history and acted quickly. I am so thankful God is so awesome in His care for us.

He is awesome in His provision for us! Not only did he create a beautiful world where we can grow food and animals to sustain our physical bodies, but He also made provision for our eternity through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus.

God is a Holy God and cannot be in the presence of sin. We are sinful. If we are to ever be in His presence, we must be holy. That cannot happen without the covering of our sins. Jesus made the payment on our behalf. All we must do is repent, take His righteousness, and follow Him. Then, when God looks at us he sees the precious blood of his Son covering our sins.

Romans 3:25-26 “Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.”

Before salvation, we are his enemy. We don’t deserve his mercy and grace, but he extends it graciously and abundantly. How awesome is that!

Today, practice looking for His awesomeness! Study your situation to see him working behind the scenes. Acknowledge and praise HIM. We are such self-centered people we take credit for things that God did. Things he deserves the glory for, things we don’t deserve, but He gives anyway.

We rob God of his glory when we accept praise rather than deflecting it back to God. In Acts 12:21-23, Herod accepted the praise of men which belonged to God, and God killed Him. I think God is very serious about His glory. He’s just long-suffering with our ignorance.

Acts 12: 21-23 “And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.”

We also rob God of His glory when we give others the praise belonging to God. It’s ok to let people know you enjoy something but place the praise where it belongs. We need to say something like; “thank you for allowing God to use you“ or “God is so good to give you this opportunity, praise Him.”

The people in Acts 12 praised Herod, not God. They were guilty and so was Herod.

We can also rob God by expressing false humility. That’s what Jesus hated in Matthew 23.

Matthew 23:3-5, 25, 28 “All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries and enlarge the borders of their garments, Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.”

God is serious about his glory! He is a jealous God and shares His glory with no one. He alone deserves ALL the glory! You will also enjoy your life and relationship with Him and others once you understand he is in an awesome category all His own!
