Galatians 5:22 & 23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
Today we will talk about faith. We all have faith. The question is, “in what do you have your faith?” It takes faith to sit in a chair and expect it to hold you up. It takes faith to be saved and faith to stay safe in our salvation. Hebrews 11:6 tells us without faith it is impossible to please God. We must believe that he is God, perfect and holy. The faith we have in Him must diligently seek Him. It’s not a head knowledge that there is a God. It’s not a hope so faith, it’s a “know so” faith.
Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
The Bible is full of examples of faith being exhibited, but there is only one place where the word faith is defined.
Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Faith is acting on what you believe before you see any evidence that it will happen. It is a matter of trusting God for who he is and what he says.
People talk about faith all the time. They say they have faith, but when you watch their lives, they worry and fret. Fear is holding them back from complete faith. So anytime we say we trust God, but we are not sure we want what God wants for our lives, we are not truly trusting the faith that His word is true. God told us he will work things out for what is best for us, (Romans 8:28). He told us he will be our strength in Isaiah 12:2-3. This same God that wants our complete faith is the one who spoke all into existence. His power is absolutely unlimited. God asks us to put our faith in Him, the only one that can do all that he says. Our faith is secure in Him.
Why do we worry? What can we do to avoid doubting God?
This substance that we hope for, and evidence we cannot see, culminates in taking God at his word and acting on the truth of his word. It is very simple when you reduce it to what it means. Do you believe God? Titus 1:2 tells us that God cannot lie! If you say you believe God, but your faith in him is wavering, then look to the book. Find out what God says about your situation, and believe Him.
Mark 11:22 “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.”
If you want to increase your faith, keep pushing forward to serve and honor him. Loving the things he loves and hating the things God hates. As you challenge yourself to do the right thing, your faith will increase. God will challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and trust him. When you do and see him work, you will experience joy beyond measure, and your faith will increase. You will get excited and want to tell someone. This, in turn, will help to increase their faith, and on it goes. Years ago, Nike came out with a slogan that said, “Just Do It!” Our lives would be so much simpler if this motto governed our relationship with God.
