The Promise Keeper – Provision

Today’s promise will deal with God’s provision for us. Everybody wants their needs met. God has promised to those who have placed their faith in Him, that He will provide their needs.

Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Paul wrote, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, these words to the Philippians who had so generously met his needs. He is reminding them that as they had supplied his needs, now God would provide their need.

When God freed the Israelites from captivity in Egypt He provided every step of the way. Each morning He gave sweet bread and quail from Heaven. Everything they needed God was providing.

Exodus 16:13 “And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.

Exodus 16:15 “And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.”

He provided protection when leaving Egypt. He not only parted the sea, so they could walk away on dry land. He closed it up on the enemy and drowned them. He could have closed the sea up before the enemy got into it, and they would have been trapped on the other side, but He chose to destroy the enemy.

He will do the same for us. Making a way to escape from our enemy, Satan. The Bible tells us that Satan is like a roaring lion seeking to devour us. However, as ferocious as he is, God is greater and will provide a way to escape. However, just like any other road, it is up to us to take the right one.

I Corinthians 10:13 “There hath no temptation taken you, but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

I Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

Every day God is meeting our needs. Every morning is a new morning full of His blessings and love.

Lamentations 3:22-23 “It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

Our problem is that we don’t understand our needs. We desire God to meet all our wants, and that is not what He has promised. You may have a need for a bill to be paid and you don’t have the resources to pay for it. God may provide that, or He may not. When we go beyond our means for wants, not needs, God is under no obligation to take care of that. He may be helping us by teaching us how to live within what He has provided. Shelter, food, and medical care are all necessities, and I believe if we serve Him and put Him first He will provide. However, the shelter may not be a fabulous home with 4 bedrooms, it may be a small home with exactly what you NEED! Your meals may not be steak, it may be hamburger. Do you get the point? What we call needs may be wants!

Our greatest need is to gain eternal life and He has provided that in His Son, Jesus. He has provided a home where everything we desire will be at our disposal in Heaven. Our greatest need is to have more of God, and He will provide more of Himself if we will seek Him. When we seek Him FIRST, other things fall into place. Our desires change, and we are satisfied and grateful for whatever God provides. When we truly put Him first in everything we are so full of Him that everything else is a bonus.

Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

I have seen God provide above and beyond our needs and the needs of so many others. I do believe He delights in giving to His children and He abundantly provides for us. He is a good God all the time and what He has promised He will do. If you feel your needs are not being met, check your relationship with Him. If you still feel they are not being met, maybe your desires are wants and not needs. Sometime today take time to assess your life. Put your needs in one column and see what is leftover. Take the time to thank God for each one. I can assure you that you will not be able to count and thank Him for all the blessings He has provided, but you still need to try.
