What will I do in Heaven is a question I am asked often. On Sunday mornings, I teach First through Third grades. They are full of questions, and I am thankful they have a desire to learn. The most asked questions are those concerning Heaven. They consistently want to know about what they can do in Heaven.
The Bible does not tell us everything about Heaven. This thought reminds me of the verse I Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” I do not believe the pages could hold all there is to know about Heaven, nor could we comprehend all there is to know. However, we can see some examples in scripture of what we will do.
First, I believe we will be consumed with worshiping Jesus. We will not be able to get enough of the one who died for our sins. We see in Isaiah 6:1 that the seraphim worshiped God as they flew around the throne, and God said, “Holy, holy, holy.” In Revelation 4:8, there are four beasts, and they are around the throne crying out, “Holy, holy, holy.” These creatures and angels are worshiping their creator. I believe we have even more reason to be around the throne, worshiping and crying, holy, holy, holy. We have not just been created in the image of God; we have been redeemed by His Son. Redeemed! No other creation can claim that blessing. So, if they spend their time worshiping God, why would we not do that as well?
Isaiah 6:1-3 “In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphim’s: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.”
Revelation 4:8 “And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.”
We will never get tired or bored in Heaven. We will not need rest, but we will be able to rest without feeling as if we need to get another task done; time will not be anymore. We will have eternity to do as we desire. Our desires will be as pure as can be. We will no longer be tempted to do wrong. There will be no rushing through anything.
We will fellowship with others. Yesterday, I wrote about knowing each other in Heaven. We will know people we have never met. Imagine sitting with Paul, Peter, or John and hearing their account of time with Jesus on earth. Imagine asking Moses about being the leader of the Israelites. We will enjoy our fellowship with the saints like we never have before.
We can serve our Savior. He needs nothing, but we will want to show our love in any way possible. Our service to Him and others will be perfect. There will be no do-overs needed. We will not misunderstand others, nor will we be misunderstood.
Anything we do in Heaven will be done with perfection. This is something we cannot fathom, it is beyond our finite minds, but it is perfectly orchestrated by a God who is infinite in everything. We will do whatever our hearts desire, but take note, our desires will be different than what we experience here.
