You may have said this phase especially if you are married. Anniversaries, shared birthdays, any day you deem special that you share with someone else is an opportunity to say, “this is our day.” From time to time I plan a day with my husband that I set aside as our day. What does that mean? It is a day when I will allow nothing to interfere with the plans that are made. It is a day that is special to me, a day for us to enjoy being together. Usually, special days are set aside for a select few that you have something in common. Paul talks about that day for all believers in I Thessalonians 4:13-18. For all of us who know Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, this day will be our day. It will be the greatest day of our lives!
In I Thessalonians 4:13-18, Paul is declaring and reminding us that one day all the struggles of this world will be over. All the waiting and longing for our loved ones will be done. He starts by saying “I would not have you ignorant.” Paul was seeking to comfort Christians in Thessalonica who were grieving over loved ones who had died. He tells them no to sorrow as those who have no hope. There is great hope for those who know Christ. One day Jesus will descend from Heaven. When this happens, those who are in the grave will have their bodies reunited with their spirit. They will have a new body forever. Those who are still alive at His coming will go to meet Him in the air. We will receive an eternal body also, and we will be with Him forever.
I Thessalonians 4:13-18 “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so, shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”
When the egg and the sperm unite in the woman, they become a living soul. They are an eternal person that may live to be 100 or die in the womb. However, only the physical body dies, the soul of a child in the womb, or the soul of an old person lives forever. On that day, our day, many moms will see their child for the first time ever. Many children will meet a dad that died before they were born. But most of all WE WILL SEE JESUS! For the first time, our eyes will behold the one who made all this possible. We will see the one who took our place as a sacrifice for our sins. All because He loved us. Because of God’s holiness sin could not enter Heaven, but because of His love, He sacrificed Jesus for us.
Just sit and imagine with me what it will be like. No more pain. No more death. No more tears. Nothing bad will ever happen in Heaven. We can sit at Jesus’ feet as long as we desire and thank Him for what He has done for us. In the next 1000 years, we can explore, then sit and listen to Him again. Being in Jesus’ presence will never grow old. We will be able to walk and talk, run, eat, or do whatever we desire. We know this because after Jesus rose from the dead He ate, walked, and talked with His disciples.
Revelation 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
Our day, a day Christians wait for anxiously. Our day, the day that starts perfection for us. Our day, a day that no one or nothing can take away from us. Our day will be a day that begins a celebration of praise for all eternity! We can sing a song the angels cannot sing. A song of redemption that will be so profound, so beautiful, that earthly ears cannot comprehend it. Yes, my friend if you are not ready for this day, don’t wait. Get ready, and stay ready, because it is coming. This will be our day forever!
Yes, what a glorious day that will be! Makes me even more homesick.
Can hardly wait!
