The wages of sin is death! Romans 6:23″For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” A death that will not cause the person to cease to exist, but will cause them to spend eternity in Hell. We who are saved seem to spend more time basking in God’s goodness rather than thinking about those who do not know God. We allow the preacher, missionary, burdened soul winner to do our part of fulfilling the great commission. As Christians, the command is to all, not just a select few.
How can we go about living out the great commission? First, we need to understand the priorities of life. The bottom line is that we will all spend eternity somewhere. Where are you going to spend eternity? There are only two choices: Heaven or Hell. Nowhere in scripture do we find any other options. Second, live as if today is your friends last day!
Luke 16:22-26 “And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.”
As you notice in these verses, one man is in heaven and one is in hell! Nothing between, and no going from one place to the other. It even states that there is a great gulf fixed between them. If you read Luke chapter 16 you will see the entire story. Once the rich man realizes he cannot do anything to change his circumstances, he then begs for someone to warn his brothers.
Why does this not break our hearts? Why don’t we seek with all that’s in us to prevent this from happening? Do we not care? Do we not believe what the Bible says? What is our problem?
Imagine your friend in hell, isolated, burning, thirsting in a dark, empty space. Feeling like he’s falling but never landing. He longs for a touch, cries out for relief, craves just one sip. He yearns to cease to exist, but cannot. He is so lonely, even though there are other people there. He can hear their screams, but can’t get to them. He recalls every missed opportunity, every relationship, every rejection. He grinds his teeth because the pain is unbearable, but he cannot get any relief. He is in hell. Forever!
How are you going to feel when you stand before God to give an account of your life, and you have never told this friend or family member about how to avoid hell?
I am so hungry to see someone saved that I cannot meet anyone without my thoughts going to their eternal destiny. I see someone in the grocery store, a neighbor down the street and immediately I try to bring the conversation to God, who he is, and what he has done for me. The goal is to get to the gospel. According to scripture I am responsible to give them the knowledge of salvation through Jesus Christ. WE are to GO, and TELL!
How often do you weep over those that are on their way to hell?
When was the last time you talked to someone about their destiny?
When was the last time you joined in a cooperate effort by your church to reach out and win someone?
What will you do?
