What Does Grace Teach Us

Grace, that beautiful word that shows us God’s unmerited favor. It is God’s Riches At Christ Expense. It is a word we should all want to take advantage of. Everyone should want God’s favor on their lives. However, we know that we don’t deserve it. We are sinful creatures that are not worthy to be in the presence of a holy God. We don’t like to think about it, but if we get what we deserve, we deserve Hell. We all have sinned against our creator, a Holy God that is so holy He cannot sin.

In Titus 2:11, we see the grace of God brings the availability of salvation to all men. In Romans 2:11, we see that God does not play favorites. His grace is available for all who believe and receive Him as Lord of their life. Grace came by Jesus. In John 1:14, the Word, Jesus, is full of grace and truth.  Grace teaches us that God’s desire is that all men will be saved and spend eternity in Heaven with Him. God made that grace possible by sending His Son Jesus to die for our sins. In John 1:14 and 16, the word full or fullness means complete or covered by. The commentator Albert Barnes says this grace is “favors that consist of pardon, protection, sanctification, peace here, and Heaven hereafter.” As a Christian our grace is complete!

Titus 2:11 “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

Romans 2:11 “For there is no respect of persons with God.”

John 1:14-16 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.”

Grace also teaches us to deny ungodliness and avoid worldly lusts. Titus 2:12 teaches us that we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world. God’s grace will empower us to overcome temptations in this world. In Romans 6:14, Paul is teaching us that sin should no longer have control over us. We are not under the law but under God’s grace that He has extended to us. It is not the legalistic keeping of the laws that we operate under, but it is through the love of Christ who has extended His grace to us. In II Corinthians 5:14-15, we see that it is Christ’s love for us that causes us to want to obey Him and deny sin in our lives. We want to live for Him, not for ourselves. Because of the grace He has bestowed on us we serve and seek to be like Him because we love Him.

Titus 2:12 “Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world”

Romans 6:14 “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

II Corinthians 5:14-15 “For the love of Christ constrained us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

It is by God’s grace we are saved. It is by His grace we can live a spirit-filled life in obedience to Him. It is by His grace we have a home in Heaven waiting for us when we die or when He returns. It is only by His grace that eternal life with Him is possible. I am thankful that His grace is available to me and that it is sufficient to help me in every situation that life can bring. In II Corinthians 12:9, Jesus himself tells Paul that His grace is sufficient for anything life throws our way. In II Corinthians 9:8, Paul teaches us that God is able to make all His grace abound to us. These verses teach us that He is able, and He delights in extending and applying His grace to our lives.

II Corinthians  12:9 “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

II Corinthians 9:8 “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work”
