There are so many times in life when we hit a crossroads and feel unsure about the next step. We pray and seek answers, but still feel unprepared to move forward. There are several things we can do.
Many determine they will choose the lesser of two evils. Something has to be done, and they don’t like either choice. That should never be the determining factor. We make our decisions based on Biblical principles, not feelings, or choosing one evil over another.
Some choose based on comfort. They want the choice with the least friction. Again, wrong answer. God does not call us to a life of ease. Sometimes we must take a stand even when we have to stand alone. I think of Daniel and his determination to pray. The decree from the King was to kill anyone who violated his law but Daniel would not deny his God for anyone. Daniel did not allow man’s laws to change his worship. The King had been tricked into throwing Daniel into a den of lions, but God protected his servant. However, when the king found out that Daniel was sparred he had him brought out and threw the other men to the lions. To read the entire miracle read Daniel 6.
Daniel 6:3-9 “Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him. Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God. Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live forever. All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counselors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions. Now, O king, establish the decree and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not. Wherefore King Darius signed the writing and the decree.”
I love Jehoshaphat’s answer to our question in II Chronicles 20:12 “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” I hear people every day trying to solve problems without seeking to know God’s will in the situation and most of the time they make the wrong choices because they choose their own reasoning instead of trusting God. If you want this question put into perspective read this chapter in Ii Chronicles 20. Jehoshaphat was in turmoil in his soul but he knew God was the answer! This is a great chapter to read to put things into perspective when you have problems.
Always seek God first before you make a move. Stay the course with what you know is true. Be still until you have assurance through his word and peace to make a choice. When it doubt, don’t. Sometimes God just wants to move us aside so we can watch his goodness take over on our behalf. Don’t rob yourself of a wonderful blessing this Thanksgiving season by getting in God’s way. This is what you do when you don’t know what to do!
