Where Are You

How many times in life have I asked that question, or been asked that question? I remember a time when I was going to a meeting in Washington D.C., and somehow, I ended up lost! I called to ask for directions and to my request, I was asked, “where are you.” To that, I had to reply I don’t know. It’s a scary thought to be in that position. I thought I was on the right path until I came to the end of the road. I did not know where I was, or which way to go. I had been driving for about two hours and totally enjoying the ride, until now. I was now in an area that did not look safe and I saw no way out. I couldn’t even tell anyone where I was, so they couldn’t help me. I made another call to my business partner and begin to describe the landmarks I saw. To my surprise, he said, “don’t stop, turn around, and get out of there, you’re in a dangerous area.” I did not know the danger that lurked, but my lack of knowledge did not lessen the danger.

This is the way the majority of people are in this world. They know they are in this world, busy, going all different directions, but have no idea where their final destination will be. They fill their days with things and fun times, riding along until one day they get to the end of the road. Sometimes the end of the road may be a tragedy. A child or someone they are close to suffers greatly. It may be that they are nearing the end of their own life. They don’t know what to do. They try using their money for relief, but that only lasts for a short period. They begin to call and seek direction, but because they have surrounded themselves with people that are just like them, the answers do not help.

Finally, they remember a friend that seemed to be different from them. This friend lived their life for Jesus. They went to church, talked about answered prayers, and even invited them to attend church with them. Eureka! This friend had answers. This friend pointed them to a true friend that would be closer than even family. This friend not only helped them in their current situation but showed them the way to safety. Safety for their soul. Safety for now and forever. Now, he was no longer lost, he had found his way.

John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Proverbs 18:24b “there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

Matthew 11:28 “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

This friend offered hope. Hope for now and hope for the future. When we place our faith in God he provides all we need. He will offer rest in the middle of the trial. He will secure eternal hope for us. A hope that will last forever.

So, where are you today? Are you lost, without hope of eternity, not knowing which way to go? You may not know the danger that lurks, but it doesn’t lessen the danger! Let me introduce you to the greatest friend of all, the one who gives perfect directions. He is the one who can secure your soul, and take you to Heaven at the end of this life. This is a journey you can rest assured will not lead you to the wrong location if you follow His directions.

Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved”

Maybe you have just lost your way. You were at one time on the right road, but now you find yourself searching. Return to the beginning of your “right road journey.” Jesus will meet you there. I John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This was written to Christians to convince them to turn around.

If neither of the roads mentioned above is you, then you must be a Christian, that is seeking to live according to His word. If that is you, you have a responsibility to tell others. It’s not an option. We are commanded to tell others. To pray for them and to reach out to them. His last words in Matthew were to go out and tell them, win them, and disciple them. This command also comes with a promise. We are to find those who are lost, without the saving knowledge of Jesus, tell them about Him, and if we do He will be with us to the end.

Matthew 28:19 – 20 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

The most important question in life is, where are you? Not where were you, or where are you intending to go, but where are you now, present tense. Examine your life today and honestly answer that question. Which category are you in, lost, searching, or saved leading others to Him?
