Who Am I

This is a question I have heard many times. In the world we live in there is much confusion about this issue. Each of us at some point in our lives will ask this question if we ever think deeply about our lives. Many will turn to counselors or doctors to try and figure out who they are and why they feel the way they do. Some will come to the end of themselves while seeking, and that is when Jesus shows up. He wants us to know the divine purpose for our lives, a life that will live forever somewhere. Our spirit never dies, only our physical bodies die. Because of the infinity of our souls, we need to understand who we truly are. We must ask the question who am I?

In the world we live in now, it not only includes the normal, “who am I” as to what will I do with my life, it includes what gender I am. This is a world where God’s decision has been replaced with man’s desires. God determined our gender before the beginning of creation. He made that decision for us and gave each of us a purpose that He wants to lead us through to fulfill our life. This choosing of our gender has not only been accepted as normal by many but is also encouraged. Schools are now asking kids how they identify in gender and encouraging them to explore their desires to be opposite of what God made them. This is insane and causes all sorts of mental problems. At creation, God made male and female. He designed us from our mother’s womb. Psalm 139 is a psalm about our creation, and it is a beautiful narrative of God’s care He takes in forming us into the person He has designed us to be. No one knows us as God knows us. Confusion comes about when we steer away from our purpose. The creator no longer is in control of His creation.

Psalm 139:13:16 “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.  My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”

God made us to be filled with Him. In the beginning, God made us perfect, but Adam and Eve disobeyed God, and sin entered into the world. Yet, in our sin, God still loved us and made a way for us to be reconciled to Him. We all are born with this sinful nature. Romans 3:23 teaches us this truth “ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Yet He did not leave us without hope. Romans 5:8 teaches us that He demonstrated that love to us, “But God commended his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” When I accept His Son Jesus as my personal Savior, I am forgiven! God in His infinite love for us knew we would sin and reject Him. Because of His love, He made a way for us to be reconciled to Him. He gave His only Son, the only one who was perfect and could pay the penalty for our sins. He also made a way for Christians to be forgiven for transgressions after we sin. I John 1:9 was written to Christians! He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all our sins.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

I John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I am redeemed. When we were created God owned us. Sin separated us, but God bought us back to Himself.

I Peter 1:18-19 “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

I have a family in Christ, a place to belong and thrive forever.

I Corinthians 12:27 “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.”

I John 3:1-2 “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore, the world knows us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”

I have been chosen by God for a purpose. A purpose He alone designed for me.

II Timothy 1:9 “Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.”

I Peter 2:9  “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:”

I am not condemned! Because of the love God has for me, He provided a way for me to escape condemnation. Doomed to Hell one day, and in an instance, forgiven and granted Heaven.

Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

Through Him, I am a conqueror! I can overcome adversities, and I can accomplish His purpose for my life if I keep my faith and trust in Him. We can’t see every situation and how it will work out, but God can, and He is already working things out for our good.

Romans 8:37 “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

I could go on and on about who I am in Christ, but you would get very tired of reading my excitement on this subject. Words can’t convey what I feel when I think of how he made me, chose me, loved me, designed a purpose for me, adopted me into His family, works things out for what is best for me, protects me, and makes me a conqueror in this life to inherit the next life! A new life that is perfect forevermore, and the best part is that I will spend it with Him! You too can experience this valuable life if you trust Him and surrender to Him. He has a plan for you and He loves you, find it, embrace it, and live it!
