Who Is In Control

If you ask the general public in America, “Who is in control?” you will probably get a variety of answers. However, most would lean toward the government and its officials. Their confidence in what is going to happen in our nation stems from political views. Some would reply that those who are in control would be those who have the most money. After all, don’t most believe money makes the world go round? The problem with thinking that people are in control, causes us to think in a ridiculously small box. Those who think this way have denied the true power of the creator. God is in control. He always has been, and He always will be!

We may not think He is in control when we see the trouble in this world, but He is. He does not cause all the bad things, but He allows them. We are not robots. He allows us the freedom to choose what we will do, and who or what we will serve. God’s ways are not our ways. To try to understand all there is about God is beyond us. This is where simple trust and faith come in.

Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

God is infinite. There is no beginning and no end. This is hard for us to grasp because everything in life has a beginning and an end. While He has no beginning or end, He sees and knows our beginning and our end, while we only see a short part of it now. He knows the whys of life while we grasp for answers and wisdom to understand.

Revelation 1:8 “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”

There is no “off duty” with God. He never sleeps, nor does He get tired or lazy. Our God is always alert, 24/7, to hear us and to watch over us. Nothing happens without His knowledge.

Psalm 121:3 “He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber

Psalm 121:4 “Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.”

God is great! He is not feeble or weak. Age has no bearing on Him. His strength is not diminished with age. Other gods that are worshiped die. You can go to the grave of Muhammad or Buddha and dig up their bones, but not our God. God in the flesh, Jesus, proved He had power over death and the grave when He rose from the grave after three days and nights. He is high and lifted up above everything. No power or force can overthrow Him, yet He has overthrown many on behalf of His people.

Psalm 48:1 “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.”

His understanding is limitless. If you’ve ever felt like no one understands you, think again. God understands everything. The Bible tells us that He numbered the stars. His power and understanding of the universe are complete. He understands everything perfectly. He understands you perfectly. He even knows the number of hairs on your head, the emotions you feel, and why you feel them. Sometimes we don’t know why we feel the way we do, but God knows. He sees our sorrow and our joy. He feels our physical pain and grief. Our God understands each one of us as if we were His only child.

Isaiah 40:28 “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

Psalm 147:5 “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.”

Matthew 10:30 “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.”

Our great God is always working things out for our good. This truth about God may cause you to stop and wonder how some things God has allowed are for your good. There is nothing wrong with wondering how God can use your circumstances for your good. I think it is important that we ask God what He is trying to teach us. We are to seek a better understanding of His work in our lives. We are not to ask with an attitude of, “Why me.” So many times Christians think that because we are God’s children, we should escape all the sorrows of this life, but that is not true. When Adam and Eve sinned, everything on earth changed. Death entered the world, and pain, suffering, jealousy, envy, and diseases, all became a part of life on this earth. Christ had to suffer to redeem us, and we must suffer to win a lost world. The disciples suffered and multitudes still give their lives for the cause of Christ. God works through all our circumstances to conform us to the image of His dear Son. Nothing surprises Him, nothing gets past Him. He is always in full control.

Philippians 1:29 “For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;”

Romans 8:28-29 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

I am so thankful that I serve a God who is in full control. I don’t have to understand, and I don’t have to know what is going to happen next. He is a good God, who loved me enough to send His Son to die a cruel death in my place so I could be redeemed, bought back, to Him. He is a God I can completely trust with everything in my life: the good, the bad, and even the ugly.
