Life has a way of throwing unexpected challenges at us—moments when the ground beneath our feet feels uncertain, or when anxiety about the future quietly creeps into our thoughts. In times like these, it’s easy to feel small, overwhelmed, and alone. Have you ever had those days when you just needed some reassurance? It may be health issues, family problems, or even the assurance of your salvation. We all have those moments when we need reassurance about something. Scripture teaches us that our assurance should be in what God has said in His word.
In Acts 23:11, Paul finds himself placed in jail for his own protection. Not knowing what the outcome may be, He continues to trust God. In this moment, Jesus comes and stands by him. The Lord proclaims that he needs to cheer up because he will be going to Rome, where he will share Christ. God fulfills Paul’s desire. He had wanted to go to Rome and share the gospel for a while. God not only tells him he will go, but He even provides guarded transportation. His enemy becomes his protection. Jesus reassures him that he will be a witness in Rome.
Act 23:11 “And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.”
In Isaiah 41:10, Isaiah speaks these words from God to the Jews during their long and painful captivity in Babylon. He wanted them to understand they had not been forsaken. They did not need to fear because the God who spoke the world into existence was still on the throne and He would not forsake them. This promise is as true today as it was then. God has not changed; He still reassures us that He will strengthen us and help us in our lives as we walk with Him. “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Some would say, “But what about the world we live in? We still see people dying and being persecuted.” Because of sin, this world will always be against those who live for Jesus. But we are not alone, and the final victory is ours. God doesn’t promise that life will be entirely free of trouble, but He promises something far greater, His constant presence within it. Notice the progression of His reassurance in Isaiah 41:10
- “I am with you.” You are never navigating your struggles alone. God is present in every detail, every tear, and every silent prayer. He is there for the tears of joy and tears of sorrow.
- “I am your God.” Your circumstances do not define you; your relationship with the Creator of the universe does. Our relationship is personal, one-on-one.
- “I will strengthen you, I will help you.” When your energy is spent, and your wisdom feels insufficient, His strength becomes your supply.
- “I will hold you with my righteous right hand.” You don’t have to hold everything together on your own. We couldn’t if we wanted to. Instead of exhausting ourselves trying to do what we cannot, we need to take ourselves off the throne of our lives and accept the power of the one who can. Let go and let God hold you.
When doubts arise, remember that God’s promises are not dependent on your feelings or your current situation. They are rooted in His unchanging character. Whatever you are carrying today, you can safely hand it over to Him, knowing He is faithful to sustain you.
