Who Do You Know

If I ask this question, “Who Do You Know,” to a public audience, I will probably get answers that reflect the culture we live in. There would be people who would name politicians, athletes, musicians, or celebrities. Your answer would depend on your background and the value you place on those you have met personally. I have met some people who are considered famous, but they are not the ones I would claim to be important. Money, fame, or social status do not impress me. As I grow older, I want everyone to know that I know Jesus and He knows me.

How do I know Him? Because I have followed His design for knowing Him, I  have a close relationship with Him. Because of scripture and the Holy Spirit, I can know Him better than I know anyone else. I love the verse in II Timothy 1:12 where Paul is proclaiming his knowledge of Jesus and his confidence in Him. “For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” He knows Jesus and is confident that Jesus is able to assure his salvation until either he dies or he sees Jesus when He returns.

We can never fully know everything there is to know about Jesus because our feeble minds cannot comprehend it. However, we can know that he is love. He exhibited His love when He died on the cross for us. We can know He hates sin because He is holy, and He never sinned. In Romans 5:8, God demonstrated His love by giving His Son to pay the price for our sins.

Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

We can know that He is omnipresent.  In Matthew 28:20, Jesus is about to leave this earth for Heaven, and His disciples are upset and desiring Him to stay, and He affirms to them that by His Spirit, He will always be with them. “I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” The word always in Matthew 28:20 indicates a permanent presence.  In Hebrews 4:23, we are told that there is no where we can flee from His presence. “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”

He is omniscient. He knows everything! In Psalm 139:1, David declares, “O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.” He goes on to say that there is no place or no thing that can be hidden from Him.”  I John 3:20 “For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.” He even knows the hidden motives of our hearts. He knows us better than we know ourselves. We can deceive ourselves, but we can not deceive God.

We can know He is omnipotent. He is all-powerful. Omnipotence means He is in control of Himself and His creation. In Colossians 1:15-16, we see that Jesus made everything! In John 1:1-3, He was from the beginning with God and is God. All things were made by Him.

Colossians 1:15-16 “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

So I ask you, who do you know? If you do not know the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Master of the Universe, and Savior of my soul, then you are missing out on the greatest relationship there ever will be. It is satisfying, comforting, loving, and gives hope for the future. If you have been saved, but you do not know much about Him, start reading and studying His word. Become faithful to a good Bible teaching and preaching church, find friends who are sold out to Jesus, and soak it all in. Most famous people have bodyguards and security that keep us away from them. Yet, the greatest person of all time, Jesus, bids you come to Him and build your relationship with Him. The only thing you need to do to ensure this relationship will grow and become sweeter is to accept Him as your personal Savior and obey Him. He’s not like the famous people who rush to their cars with security to get away from you. He is waiting for you with open arms, and He already loves you.
